How to open a bank statement PDF in India
There is no single password formula for every Indian bank statement. The correct rule can change by bank, product, delivery channel and even the statement type. Start with the message that delivered the PDF and use only guidance for that exact issuer and product.
Do not use one password rule for every bank
A savings-account statement, credit-card statement and loan statement from the same bank may use different password formats. Some issuers use parts of the customer name and date of birth; others use a customer ID, account fragment or a code selected when requesting the file.
The email or SMS that delivered the attachment is normally the best source. Read its password instructions before trying patterns found on unrelated websites.
A reliable four-step check
Treat the statement as a product-specific document, not simply as a PDF from a familiar bank.
Identify the exact issuer and product
Confirm the bank name and whether the document is for a savings account, current account, credit card, loan, demat account or prepaid card.
Read the delivery message
Search the email body and SMS for 'password', 'attachment', 'e-statement' or 'PDF'. Also check a second email sent at the same time.
Match formatting exactly
Name case, spaces, leading zeroes and date order matter. Never enter an ATM PIN, UPI PIN, OTP or internet-banking password unless the issuer explicitly says so—and legitimate statement instructions normally will not ask for those secrets.
Request a fresh statement
If the file may be incomplete, download it again from the official banking app or website before considering recovery.
Common reasons a statement remains locked
Most failures are caused by using the right idea for the wrong product or by a small formatting mismatch.
Name differs across records
The embossed card name, account-holder name and email greeting may not be identical. Use the version named in the bank's instructions.
Date order is different
DDMM, DDMMYYYY and other formats are not interchangeable. Follow the issuer's example, including leading zeroes.
The document type was misidentified
A transaction report exported by an app may not use the same rule as the underlying bank's monthly e-statement.
If official instructions still do not work
First contact the bank through the number or support channel shown in its official app or website. The issuer may resend the statement or confirm the product-specific format without exposing account credentials.
For an authorised PDF that remains locked, LostMyPassPro can run a free initial check. If a result is verified, the status page shows proof and the exact local rupee price, including GST, before payment. Never upload a statement you do not own or have permission to access.
Transparent local pricing after a result
Start with a free check. If your password or unlocked file is verified, the private status page shows proof and the exact price in rupees, including GST, before payment. No subscription and no charge for an unsuccessful Fast Check.
Use only for a file you own or are authorised to access.
