🇮🇳 Official UIDAI rule first

How to open an eAadhaar PDF safely

Most eAadhaar files do not need password recovery. UIDAI publishes a standard format, so the correct first step is to try that rule yourself for free. Use a recovery service only when your own authorised file still does not open.

    Verified against UIDAI guidance

    Official eAadhaar password format

UIDAI says the password is the first four characters of the name printed on Aadhaar, in CAPITAL letters, followed by the year of birth in YYYY format.

For example, a printed name of SURESH KUMAR and birth year 1990 gives SURE1990. If the printed name has fewer than four characters, UIDAI's examples use the available characters followed by the year.

    Try these checks before recovery

Build the password from the details printed on the Aadhaar document, not from a nickname or a different identity record.

    1

    Read the printed English name

Use the first characters exactly as the name appears in English on the Aadhaar record. Keep letters uppercase and do not translate a name from another script.

    2

    Append only the birth year

Use four digits such as 1990. Do not add the day, month, slash, hyphen, space or full date of birth.

    3

    Check punctuation and short names

An initial or punctuation mark printed within the first four characters may matter. UIDAI publishes examples for dotted initials and names shorter than four letters.

Why the official password may appear to fail

A failed attempt does not automatically mean the PDF has a custom password. These details cause most mismatches.

The name changed after the PDF was issued

Use the details associated with the downloaded eAadhaar version. A later profile correction may not match an older file.

    The wrong year was used

Use the year recorded by UIDAI. A declared or approximate birth year can differ from the year used on another document.

The file is damaged or not from UIDAI

A corrupt download, renamed attachment or third-party document may show a password error even when the password is correct. Download a fresh copy from the official portal when possible.

When a recovery check is appropriate

If the official construction and a fresh UIDAI download still fail, an authorised recovery check can verify whether the PDF uses a different value or whether the file itself is damaged. Upload only a document that belongs to you or that you are expressly authorised to access.

LostMyPassPro runs a free initial check. If a verified result is found, the private status page shows proof and the exact local price in rupees, including GST, before you decide whether to pay. There is no subscription.

Aadhaar is sensitive identity data. Do not share the PDF, Aadhaar number, OTP or recovered password with an untrusted person. Files submitted to LostMyPassPro remain tied to a private status link and follow the displayed deletion window.

    eAadhaar password FAQ
